Blenderized tube feeding (BTF) is getting more and more popular with home tube feeders. It is getting so popular that the large nutrition companies (Real Food Blends, Functional Formularies and Nestle HealthScience) are mass producing whole food tube feeding products that are very similar to home blends. Clinicians are also taking notice with many new clinical studies being published on the benefits of a blenderized tube feeding diet.

A recent study was conducted with 30 tube fed head and neck cancer patients who switched from a standard commercial tube feeding to a commercial BTF formula. Sixteen of the patients finished the study and reported excellent results with regard to weight gain, reduction in GI complications (pain, bloating, vomiting, constipation and diarrhea) and improvement in quality of life.
